Nevesinjsko polje is one of the karst fields of eastern Herzegovina, which is characterized by a significant biodiversity. Since karst fields are one of the most fragile ecosystems in the world, special attention is paid to their protection. In the area of Nevesinjsko polje collection and usage of medicinal plants have a long tradition among the local people. However, today its collection should meet the modern standards of its sustainable and environmentally based exploitation. The aim of this work is to give an overview of medicinal plants in the area of Nevesinjsko polje that are protected in the Republic of Srpska. Based on the literature data, as well as field research, the presence of eight species of medicinal plants in the area of Nevesinjsko polje, which are on the Rulebook of strictly protected and protected wild species in the Republic of Srpska, was determined. Furthermore, we emphasize the need to monitor populations as well as improve knowledge of local people regarding its sustainable use and preservation for future generations.
