The ongoing research that will shape the future of polymers has been focused on understanding of the charge trapping process and its maximum exploitation in the optimization of materials' characteristics in polymer engineering. During the production and storage of polymer materials, and due to friction, various chemical and mechanical impurities and various electrical potentials that the polymer is exposed to over time, the trapped charges can be found in the polymer matrix. In this overview, we begin to recall three fundamental quantities related for traps, i.e. their nature, energy and density [1]. Depending on the energy depth, traps can either assist transport or lead to long-lasting charge storage. The role of traps in the optimization of charge transport attracts a lot of attention because it has a significant impact on the electrical properties of polymers. The aim of this contribution is to review the different approaches that applied to improve the properties of dielectric polymer films for energy condensers [2]. The study of energy aspects of electron trapping in polymers could contribute to the wider use of polymer capacitors instead of conventional electrochemical battery, which is the goal of our research.
