International Mathematical Creativity and Giftedness Conference

10th International Mathematical Creativity and Giftedness Conference

Кратки назив: MCG 10

Локација: , Nicosia, Cyprus

We are pleased to announce that the 10th International Mathematical Creativity and Giftedness Conference (MCG10) will be held in Cyprus, during April 2017. The MCG conference is managed by the International Group for Mathematical Creativity and Giftedness. It aims at promoting mathematical creativity and giftedness in students of all ages and backgrounds, and supporting interested mathematics educators, mathematicians, researchers and other individuals. The suggested topics will allow presentation of research, fruitful debate and opportunities for interaction among professionals with interdisciplinary interests.

The Scientific Committee encourages researchers, faculty members, teachers, psychologists and students to submit papers to the Conference. The papers should be written in English, which is the official language of the conference.
The submitted papers can be of the following types: Research Report, Project Report, Symposium, Poster, and Workshop
The submitted papers should be of up to 6 pages for a Research Report, or a Project Report, and up to 2 pages for Symposia, Workshops and Posters, addressing, but not restricted to the following topics:

  • Mathematical creativity for all students, from all backgrounds and of all ages
  • Mathematical creativity, aptitude and achievement
  • Mathematical giftedness, talent and promise
  • Mathematical creativity for individuals or teams, inside or outside the classroom
  • Mathematics competitions

Research Report

The goal of a research report is to present authentic research in the field of mathematical creativity and giftedness. A Research Report can be either an empirical or a theoretical paper.

  • Empirical papers should include: the focus of the paper, an indication of the theoretical framework for the study, an indication of and justification for the methodology used, and relevant empirical data and results.
  • Theoretical papers should include: the focus or theme of the paper, an indication of the theoretical or philosophical framework within which the focus or theme of the paper is developed, a clearly articulated statement of the author's position about the focus or theme, and implications.

The duration of each presentation will be 30 minutes: 20 minutes for the oral presentation and 10 minutes for discussion.

Project report

This type of presentation will include descriptions of the teaching practices, curricula, projects and programs aiming at the development of students' mathematical creativity and giftedness. A project report should include the purpose of the project, its instruments, the challenges addressed, and the outcomes that demonstrate the effectiveness of the project. The duration of each presentation will be 30 minutes: 20 minutes for the oral presentation and 10 minutes for discussion.

Symposium

The goal of a symposium is to initiate dialogue and discussion on related important issues. We expect that each symposium will frame a research agenda for future research. The symposia will focus on selected topics related to the conference and coordinated by members of the international program committee and invited experts. Proposed symposia could address the following themes:

Mathematical creativity and giftedness in:

  • Kindergarten and elementary school
  • Middle and high school
  • Formal and informal learning
  • Teacher professional development

The symposia papers should present their focus on research ideas in the field, authentic research questions and offer an outline of the discussions and interactions that will take place among the participants.
The short papers for the symposia will be reviewed by the international program committee who will consider their relevance to the scope of the symposia.
The discussions stimulated by the symposia can be further developed as research papers involving the collective work of teachers and researchers. The symposia will run simultaneously during a 90 minutes time slot.

Workshops

This type of presentation will require the active involvement of the participants, and will emphasize problem-solving and hands-on activities. Short papers (two pages only) should include the goals of the workshop and the ways in which the participants will be involved in the activities. Each workshop will be allotted in total 90 minutes.

Poster Presentations

Poster Presentations are available for those whose work is more suitably communicated in a pictorial or graphical format or demonstration (e.g., computer program), rather than through an oral presentation. Poster presentations require a two-page short paper that describes the content of the poster.
During the conference, the authors will discuss their findings in small groups and answer the attendees' questions. During a specified time period, the authors will be expected to be near their posters.

The acceptance of papers for all types of presentations will be based on a peer review process. The review forms can be downloaded from: The "Forms for reviewers" page. All accepted papers will be published in the electronic proceedings.
Authors who are non-native English speakers are kindly asked to proof read their work prior to the submission by a proficient English speaker. Papers can be rejected due to poor standard of English.

NOTE: Due to the large number of papers expected for this conference, the committee only allows an author to register for at most two papers.
