Uranium Mining and Hydrogeology 2014 International Conference and UMREG 2014 | UMH VII

Kratki naziv: UMH VII

The seventh International conference of Uranium Mining and Hydrogeology of the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg and the IAEA Technical meeting of the Uranium Mining and Remediation Exchange Group (UMREG)
Once again, the Institute for Geology of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg is pleased to invite you to the next international conference “UMH VII” taking place in Freiberg on September 2014. The UMH VII conference will be used as basis of an international forum for discussing uranium related problems in conjunction with protecting and preserving our environment. This conference builds on the very successful past conferences (UMH I to UMH VI) from 1995 until 2011. Also, the IAEA Technical meeting of the Uranium Mining and Remediation Exchange Group (UMREG) will be held for two days. UMREG is a network of peers working in the remediation of uranium mining and ore processing facilities that has existed for nearly 20 years. For 2014 the following sessions are scheduled: Session I: Uranium mining In-situ leaching Heap leaching Radiation protection Environmental issues Life-cycle concepts International safety standards Risk assessment studies Education, training, and public relations Session II: Uranium and phosphates New methods of uranium recovery Phosphogypsum Case studies Session III: Clean-up technologies for water and soil Mine closure: concepts, clean-up and reality Phytoremediation/stabilization Microbiological technologies Intelligent management and treatment of uranium-enriched mine water Session IV: Uranium and daughter nuclides Species analytics Aspects of isotopes Sensors and assays Radon indoor Uranium and radium in drinking water including water treatment Impact of Chernobyl and Fukushima disasters on groundwater Session V: Basic research and modeling Thermodynamics and kinetics Reactive transport modeling Fate of uranium released by phosphate fertilizers Practitioners, consultants, regulators, policymakers, researchers, scientists, engineers, and students will have numerous opportunities to learn about innovative and emerging scientific advances and technologies that are needed to address a wide range of uranium mining and mine closure associated with environmental issues such as soil and groundwater protection, mine water treatment technologies and management, environmental impacts of phosphate mining associated with fertilizer production and technologies for uranium separation. Key sessions will include mining technologies, reclamation and remediation, regulatory issues, monitoring measures, modeling techniques, biogeochemistry of uranium, and risk assessment studies.
