N-methylthiazolidinediones are biologically active compounds with extremely antidiabetic, antiinflammatory, antioxidant and antitumor performances. It’s been known that biological activity of these compounds highly depends on the surrounding medium, therefore, in this paper, solute-solvent interactions have been studied. In this study spectrophotometric method has been used. Apsorbtion spectra of 9 newly synthesized derivatives of 5-benzylidene-3-N-methylthiazolidine-2,4-diones were reorded, in range of 200-600 nm, wthin 10 solvents with different properties. Solvatochromism of the tested compounds has been examined with two different solvatochromic models. In addition to the study, the influence of chemical structure on the spectral behavior was analyzed by applying the Hammett’s equation, due to better prediction of their biological activity.
