Triple Model Framework as a guide for occupational therapists in practice

The quality of life and participation of all people are significantly affected by the occupations they engage in on a daily basis. Participation in occupations is essential. Occupations are complex and change throughout life. Client's participation in the occupations such as activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, health management, rest and sleep, education, work, play, leisure, and social participation maintains their health and well-being.
Putting theory into practice is always an interesting and challenging question for occupational therapists. The theory is illustrated to guide practice. Reflective practice that considers diversity and context are emphasized. The aim of this article is to provide an appropriate framework for the application of client-centered practice in occupation-based practice.
The Canadian Occupational Therapy Guidelines for Client-centred Enablement focus on employment and occupational performance using a three-part model framework. The Canadian Model of Occupational Performance and Engagement (CMOP-E) places occupational performance at the center of practice. The Canadian Model of Client-Centred Enablement (CMCE) identifies key competencies to enable individual and social change. Integrate the two core concepts of occupation and enablement to describe the practical mosaic of occupation-based enablement. Design the theoretical foundations for empowerment in a Canadian Practice Process Framework (CPPF) using a variety of clients in a variety of settings.
These are not technical guidelines for specific processes. They are practice guidelines for the broad and complex application of the core concepts of the profession. These guidelines support occupational therapy education and promote a vision of health, well-being, and justice that views clients as participants in their daily activities. The theory provides occupational therapists with a clear conceptual framework for thinking about the person throughout the professional process. When applying this framework to case studies, it becomes clear that practice is strongly grounded in theory.
