The growing concern over electromagnetic (EM) pollution has driven rapid advancements in the field of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and EM wave absorption in recent years, with research focusing on carbon materials characterized by a large specific surface area and high porosity. Compared to other carbonaceous materials, biomass-derived carbon (BC) is considered an efficient and environmentally friendly material for this purpose. In this paper, we summarize recent achievements regarding BC materials for EMI shielding and EM wave absorption. Special emphasis is placed on the possibilities of their application in the manufacturing of protective housings for modern electronic devices used to access digital platforms. These innovative materials offer solutions that not only minimize unwanted radiation but also significantly contribute to the safety of human health in a technological environment. Following a brief overview of synthesis strategies for BC materials and a precise description of EM wave interference, strategies for enhancing their EMI shielding and EM wave absorption performance are discussed. Finally, existing challenges and future perspectives for such materials are briefly summarized.
