Environmental issues reflect the agony of the human being to preserve the life on planet earth, with activities regarding social sensitivity and the scientific community to search for solutions. Aspects for the estimated global energy consumption and the relative environmental problems in 21st century, can show the necessary steps that should be performed. To this aim, the reduction of fossil fuels and the potential for their replacement by the renewable energies, should be considered. Solar energy is going to be the most important energy source in the next decades and mainly during the second half of this century. Towards this figure, the building integrated solar thermal collectors, photovoltaics and PV/T systems will play an important role in the energy demand of the existing and of the future buildings. An overview of these systems regarding energy targets and environmental protection, will underline the multi effective use of solar energy systems inside a fast changing world.
