Organic waste from households represents a significant unused resource that can be valorized into functional materials for environmental protection. This paper presents the synthesis of a carbon adsorbent obtained by carbonizing a mixture of banana, potato and carrot peels in a mass ratio of 1:1:1. After carbonization at 800 °C in a nitrogen atmosphere, a detailed characterization of the material was performed by determining the point of zero charge (pHpzc), FTIR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and BET analysis of the specific surface area. The obtained results show that carbonization leads to complete structural changes of the biomass, where oxygen functional groups are removed and an aromatic carbon structure is formed. SEM analysis confirms the development of a pronounced porous and fibrous morphology, while BET analysis shows a developed micro-mesoporous structure with a specific surface area of 483 m²/g. The determined pHpzc value was 10.55, which indicates a predominantly basic character of the adsorbent surface. The obtained characteristics indicate that the carbonized material has a large number of active sites suitable for the adsorption of organic pollutants. The results confirm that household waste can be successfully transformed into a high-value adsorbent, thereby simultaneously contributing to the development of a circular economy and sustainable technologies for water purification.
