Investigation of mode coupling in glass optical fibers and liquid-core optical fibers

Mode coupling characteristics of step-index glass optical fibers and liquid-core optical fibers are obtained by three methods. Compared are the coupling length Lc where the equilibrium mode distribution is achieved and length zs where steady-state distribution is achieved. It is shown that optical fibers with same coupling coefficient can have much different coupling characteristics.
