Modeling the interaction of laser with transparent and non-transparent materials is still an area that acquires new problems, partially solving the existing ones, but considering the trend of developing new materials, new sources of stimulated light and the entry of non-linear solutions in mass media applications. Considering future tasks, both theoretical and experimental, potential further applications of quantum generators as sources of stimulated radiation, and the present state in the application of laser measuring techniques (metrology) and processing are in constant increase. It seems that, regarding the current situation in the application of laser measuring techniques and material processing (actually) the future interest, will be at least the same if not greater.
The paper deals with the selected problems in the field of interaction with materials of various types transparent in the defined ranges in relation to electromagnetic radiation. The effects of nonlinear optics vigorously and sharply change properties near thresholds of various nonlinear effects that occur, but the regularly occurrence in time and intensity does not have always all understanding. Techniques in which laser interaction is in the search for the new characteristic material constants and methods of measurement will also be considered. The contributions to refraction index (or susceptibilities of higher order) are key factors governing the interactions of materials with high power beams of stimulated radiation), and their evaluations or measurements cannot be easily obtained.
In selected linear and non-transparent materials, in linear terms, (low intensity beams), series of experimental expositions were performed, for which was required the material evaluation of the damage by applying the appropriate numerical and analytical methods for estimating the quantitative intensity indicators and further the component's usefulness (if selected component is in an optical system).
The replacement of laser sources in some areas related to spectroscopy, colorimetry, elipsometry and standards will also be analyzed.
Assessing and selecting the functions used in modeling are a special task, which seems to require more experimental facts from various laser working regimes (cw or pulse, Q switch or fs ranges, high or low pulse repetition rate are important parameters). Particular attention will be paid to damage in the regime of lasers where the energy is the order of several joule (J) in the free-generation regime. Results will be compared to other characteristic shape and duration of the pulses. The samples will be glass based components, nonlinear optical material for optical modulations, too, plastic optical components and other.
