The use of plastics began in the middle of the last century. These materials experienced a significant expansion at the end of the same and the beginning of this century, and reaching the maximum of their application is expected in the middle of this century. It would be hard to imagine modern civilization without plastic. Today, plastic is indispensable, with a variety of applications, from everyday items to sophisticated scientific and medical instruments.
Processing of plastomer represents an important industrial branch both in the world and in our country. The participation of plastic parts is becoming more and more important in many areas of technology, such as: automotive industry, electrical engineering, electronics, telecommunications, computer technology, production of household appliances, chemical and pharmaceutical industry, medicine, etc. There is almost no industry in which plastic components are not present. The reduction of sources of natural materials also contributes to the increasing use of plastomers, which replace natural materials. The constant expansion of the range of polymer materials, with an ever-widening spectrum of characteristics, creates new opportunities for ever-widening application in all areas of the economy and everyday life of mankind.
In the plastic processing industry, and especially in the field of injection molding, computers and modern software enable efficiency and time savings, both in the product design phase (Computer Aided Design - CAD), and in the technology design phase (Computer Aided Manufacturing - CAM), and in the simulation and analysis phase (Computer Aided Engineering - CAE), and the design of spatially complex surface manufacturing technology turns into a routine process. The process of product design (CAD) is the subject of this work, which is the basis for the design of tools and injection molding technology. The SolidWorks software package was used successfully for all the mentioned phases of the injection molding technology design process. In this work, the application of the mentioned software is limited only to the first phase, modeling of plastic products.
Computer-aided design (CAD) is the process of designing products with the help of computers and includes activities that are separated between drawing on a computer and working on software systems that support automatic product design. CAD can also be defined as the application of computers and graphics software to assist in the creation, or improvement of product construction, from conception to documentation. Product modeling was done in the SolidWorks software package.
CAD represents a revolution in the field of plastics processing in recent decades and is the basis for tool design and computer simulation of injection molding and cooling processes. In contrast to the traditional methods of designing and making very expensive prototypes and subsequent debugging, it became possible to predict with a high degree of certainty that the new product will be obtained from the first attempt and at the same time meet the required quality.
