Planning the crankshaft grinding process

In order to reduce the number of household compressor claims we have looked for those properties of individual compressor components or assemblies which are the largest source of failures. It has been shown that one of the most common reasons is the wear of crankshafts, which is a result both of the impurities as well as of the inadequate clearance between the crankshaft and the block. This article deals with the geometrical irregularities on the crankshaft, and its causes, which are mainly the result of the incapability of the grinding process. Therefore, the focus will be on the dimensional and geometrical accuracy of the crankshafts production process. The quality of a processed crankshaft depends on various factors mainly deriving from the grinding process, in which there is a set of input parameters. Due to the number of input parameters, which largely influence the output characteristics of the product, and due to the reduction of the implementation costs in our planning process we have used the Taguchi method. In the result evaluation the Minitab statistic tools have been used.
