Natural environments (green and blue areas) are associated with a range of health benefits. Green and blue areas may contribute to reducing and improving stress, but their use is likely to be affected by features, facilities, amenities, condition / maintenance, or natural environment. Most quality assessment tools focused on green areas and their support for physical activity. This limits their usefulness to assessing other natural environment types and their uses (eg, social, relaxation). We aim to develop a practical on-site assessment tool for diverse natural environments that may support a variety of uses, explore the linkages between the quality of the natural environment and the objectively measured quantity of the natural environment and the socio-economic status of the neighboring region (SES).
