Artificial intelligence (AI) represents one of the most significant digital transformation technologies of the modern industrial sector for the application of intelligent and smart production systems and Industry 4.0 (I4.0), and is increasingly gaining strategic importance in the management of complex production systems. Mining and metallurgical plants represent special complex industrial systems characterized by continuous production processes, high consumption of energy and raw materials, high maintenance costs, complex logistics, strict requirements regarding product quality and a significant impact on the environment. In such conditions, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in cooperation with the concepts of M4.0 (management for industry 4.0) and Q4.0 (quality for industry 4.0) can significantly improve the quality and speed of managerial decision-making and contribute to increasing the competitiveness of mining and metallurgical enterprises.
The application of artificial intelligence (AI) methods enables the collection, processing and analysis of large amounts of data generated during production, energy, logistics and business processes. Based on historical and real-time data analysis, AI-based systems can provide management with a more reliable basis for forecasting production, energy consumption, product quality, breakdowns, downtime and market changes. The particular importance is predictive maintenance (PdM), which, based on data from sensors and previous modes of operation of the equipment, can identify patterns that indicate the possibility of failure. In this way, directors are enabled to plan maintenance in a timely manner, reduce unplanned downtime and increase the availability of production capacity.
The aim of the paper is to analyze the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the process of strategic and operational management of metallurgical plants, with a special focus on the possibilities of its application in the work of the director and top management of the company.
