DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING OF DIES USED FOR THE PRODUCTION OF COMPLEX SHAPED PROFILES BY HOT EXTRUSION OF ALUMINIUM ALLOYS

Summary: The increasing complexity of profiles needed in the aluminum and aluminum alloys industries is setting greater demands to the die designer and manufacturer. Modern CAD systems, CNC machining, eroding systems are helpful in the checking of these demands and the economic manufacture of dies. The design of complex forms even aided by computerized modeling and simulation is in demand of an understanding metal flow gained only by experience. The design is also determined by the available machining methods. New manufacturing methods are used in the making of dies having complex shapes and incorporating into themselves critical relation consoles. Thin-walled profiles with narrow tolerances are manufactured by multiple input hole dies. The dies users expect to obtain profiles with dilatations in length and dimensions within the specified tolerances. CNC methods are needed in order to obtain effectiveness, precision and repeatability in die manufacturing.
