The paper provides an analysis of the stability of open stopes in the conditions of hard roof during the underground exploitation of bauxite. Roof controling during the ore bodies exploitation is carried out by caving or by uncontrolled open stopes, resulting in increased losses and impoverishment of excavated ore and insufficient safety of the workers and equipment. The main goal is the stability analysis of open stopes to define the natural zone of stability, in the conditions of stability less to choose such a system of support which will be enable excavation of ore bodies in the conditions of stable open stopes.
