The problem of the limited access to finance is one of the key constraints to small and medium-sized enterprises’ (SME) growth in the most of countries. The financing gap in business projects’ realization is keenly characteristic for the SMEs from developing countries and transition economies, just like the Republic of Moldova is considered.
The aim of this paper is to elicit the depth of SME’s constraints, related with the access to financial resources, to establish possible reasons of them and to elaborate suggestion to ease them.
The researchers of the Institute of Economy, Finance and Statistics (IEFS) of the Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Economics of Moldova carry out researches of different aspects of the SME sector in Moldova regularly. And practically each of them displays the significance of the financing gap problem.
The lack of financial resources is the direct or indirect reason of poor development of different entrepreneurship process’s fields, like insufficient investment activity, slow equipment’s renewal, problems with the staff, real estate’s lease, export, etc.
The financial constraints for SMEs result from both general economic conditions and the state of specific characteristics of the business environment in the Republic of Moldova.
The basis of this paper is formed of results of the applied research projects, which have been carried out within the limits of the IEFS during last years, and included interviews with the entrepreneurs and case-studies as well.
