Alloy Ti6Al4V has been widely used in the manufacturing of orthopedic implants, primarily for manufacturing of the artificial hip implants. This material has the advantages over steel, primarily because of the strength and bio-compatibility. Technological requirements and restrictions in the hot processing of these alloys are very high.
In this paper the details of these materials usage for implants manufacturing have been discussed. For specific part - artificial hip steam, the technology for hot forging was designed and trial production was conducted in industrial conditions. In that process the necessary conditions were fulfilled, given the specific requirements for alloy Ti forging.
The paper presents the accompanying numerical analysis of the forging process, the results of stress and strain distribution, cavity filling, deformation force changes and similar. Results of micro-specimen mechanical testing from forged artificial hip completely meet the established requirements. The achieved results are very significant, given that the hot forging technology of alloy Ti6Al4V was conducted in this region for the first time.
