In modern business environment a typical enterprise is small or medium sized one. Not only their number, but their contribution to the employment and generated value are indicators of their importance for one national economy. That is way a competitiveness of small and medium sized sector is a vital factor of the competitiveness of the economy as a whole. But, in building, maintaining and improving their competitiveness small and medium sized enterprises are faced with some obstacles. Smaller size of small and medium sized enterprises is one of the main sources of the barriers that these enterprises are faced with in realising higher business performances. Overcoming these barriers and improving competitiveness on that basis more often requests for small and medium sized enterprises to network – mutually or with big companies. Small and medium sized enterprises can improve their competitiveness by creating and maintaining the network of relationships with other market participants. These network like structures can be an adequate frame for small and medium sized enterprises to access the needed resources and competences. Basic logic that underlines the networking strategies is the idea that the cooperation is needed in order to compete in modern economy. The aim of this paper is to show possible effects of networking strategies, and to examine the realisation of these effects in a case of small and medium sized enterprises clustering. In order to test the impact of clustering on small and medium sized enterprises' performances the Nišava District Textile Cluster was chosen. This particular cluster was chosen because the Nišava District was once known for its developed textile industry. This district, as well as its textile industry is now underdeveloped, so there is a clear need to examine the effectiveness of some existing business models developed for their recovery. The dynamic of cluster members' performances during the four year period shows that some improvements were achieved. But, further statistical analysis does not confirm the existence of positive effects of this cluster on its members' business performances, their growth and development. Short time of the cluster existence, the effects of world economic crisis and the most important – inadequate structure and support of the examined cluster are seen as the main reason for this positive effects' absence.
