The structure of fabrics and properties of yarn and fibers play significant role in term of thermal-mechanical properties of textile materials suitable for footwear. When shopping for footwear, the users should select shoes that are designed for their shape of the foot, and provide required thermo-mechanically sensory properties when are used. Further, the important factors of comfort are how a footwear transfer the heat and how they are flexible during walking.
Fabric Touch Tester (FTT) was used to evaluate thickness, compression, bending, roughness, friction and thermal properties of five different textile materials suitable for footwear. Based on measured parameters for each side of the fabric, in both warp and weft directions, the subjective primary sensory indices (PSI) of hand feel such as smoothness, softness, warmth and total hand/touch feel was predicted.
The obtained results shown that the construction parameters and yarn properties of the tested fabrics have important influence on their bending rigidity, thickness and thermal conductivity. Those properties should be taken into account when the new footwear are designed.
