Electrocardiography is the method of graphic tracing of the electric current generated by the heart muscle. The tracing is recorded with an electrocardiograph, and it provides information on the condition and performance of the heart. The standard ECG has 12 leads. Six of the leads are considered "limb leads" since they are from leads placed on the arms and/or legs of the individual. The other six leads are considered "precordial leads" since they are placed on the person's torso (precordium). The 6 limb leads are called lead I, II, III, aVL, aVR and aVF. The letter “a” stands for “augmented” as these leads are calculated as a combination of leads I, II and III. The 6 precordial leads are called leads V1, V2, V3, V4, V5 and V6. The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) is a worldwide, intergovernmental organization whose primary aim is to harmonize the regulations and metrological controls applied by the national metrological services, or related organizations, of its Member States. OIML published International Recommendations (OIML R), which are model regulations that establish the metrological characteristics required of electrocardiographs and which specify methods and equipment for checking their conformity. Laboratory for metrology at Faculty of Technical Sciences designed and developed equipment for metrological verification ofelectrocardiographs, according to those OIML International Recommendations.
