The industry of wind turbines for electricity production have the fastest growth rate in the world for years. The application of wind turbines in our region is still in the development, although in some parts there are favorable conditions for larger electricity production from wind force.
Wind turbines are very complex systems with a large number of rotating parts that require lubrication: gears, roll bearings, hydraulic systems etc. The gear of wind turbine that transmits torque from rotor whose rotating speed is 10-20 rpm to generator that requires 1200-1800 rpm is exposed to high and variable loads, vibrations and very broad temperature ranges. Lubricating oil for wind turbine gear lubrication is exposed to variable loads and temperatures of up to 100 °C, and therefore it has to provide maximum protection from wear, corrosion, foaming, provide compatibility with elastomers, in order to keep the whole system working without stopping for as long as possible. Formulations of lubricating oil for wind turbines contain mineral and synthetic base oils, classic liquid additives and nanoadditives as solid lubricants.
In this paper we showed the results of wind turbine gears lubricant development, that fulfills very high quality demands specified by equipment manufacturer (Simens/Flender Rev.13).
