After the Government of Republic of Serbia has adopted the Law on efficient consumption of energy, energy managers in local governments will be responsible for proposing and implementing measures for efficient energy consumption. Schools, as large energy consumers, become very important from that ascpect. The comfort of children is another important issue, because schools in Kragujevac are located in buildings which were constructed from the end of 19. century to the end of 20. century, so they mainly have old doors and windows and lack insulation. The paper includes energy consumption analysis for schools in the city of Kragujevac. The data shown in the paper were collected in the period 2006 - 2012, for 22 elementary schools. The data on energy consumption, area of the buildings, number of students, number of classrooms, type and year of construction, type and price of fuel, as well as number of work days were analized for these facilities. Kragujevac schools are heated using the thermal energy coming from district heating system, electrical energy and solid fuel (coal and wood). The thermal energy from district heating system is still charged using a flat rate, according to area, and not according to actual consumption. In the last couple of years, control measurement of supplied energy had been done in several schools by the public company supplying the thermal energy, so it is possible to calculate thermal energy consumption indicators in those schools. Where it was possible, specific heat and electrical energy consumption indices were calculated.
