The „Solar Tree“ is an off-grid photovoltaic (PV) device, planned to be a charger for mobile phone and computer devices, educational info point and part of the public lighting system. It's attractive and modern design complements the public area of the city and fits perfectly into any architectural environment. In addition to the promotion of renewable energy sources, the "Solar Tree" promotes the use of energy-efficient technologies, i.e. efficient LED lighting and energy-efficient LED screens. This device is the result of a Private-Public Partnership project implemented in cooperation between the Energy Club, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the City of Prijedor.
„Solar Tree“ powers several devices in two different regimes (summer and winter regime) whit a daily energy consumption of 1600Wh and 450Wh respectively. The installed capacity of PV panels and battery is 800W and 500Ah which is enough to power the installed devices for two days without solar charging.
This paper presents the optimization of the unique architectural design of the “Solar Tree” and calculation and sizing method of the components.
