Stiffness class of spiral pipes or rather defomation resistance is the most important parameter which influences the performances of flexible pipes. This parameter is dependent to geometry (momentum of inertia) and physical characteristics of the raw material (modulus of elasticity). Stiffness class can be calculated either mathematically for solid-wall pipes, by using a correct elasticity modulus, or experimentally for structured-wall or composite-wall pipes, by conducting a test. In this paper stiffness class of selected samples of spiral pipes is determined via test method. Momentum of inertia was calculated using graphical method. In comparison to the experimental results, FEM analysis was performed over similar geometrical and material models. The results obtained from both tests and computer simulations are presented in this paper.
