Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is essentially, but not exclusively, a microvascular disease. It has a dichotomous approach- the presence or absence of new vessels, the presence or absence of sub-foveal macular oedema. The role of the retinal pigment epithelium and choroidal circulation in diabetic retinopathy is largely unknown. The aim of this presentation is to provide evidence-based, clinical approach for the best management of different aspects of diabetic retinopathy. Additionaly, it is focused on diabetic opticopathy, vitreous haemorrhage and cataract surgery in diabetic patients since we did not aware enough about its clinical relevance. Beside mentioned, importance of timely recognizing features of non-proliferative retinopathy enables to predict an individual’s risk of future diabetic retinopathy progression.
