Empirical modelling is the most widely used way to model very complex processes, such as, for example, laser assisted milling. This paper starts with a short overview of techniques used in modelling of laser assisted milling up to date. In the second part of the paper a case study and a comparison of different techniques for empirical modelling the actual laser assisted milling process is presented. The impact of four process parameters, including two machining (spindle speed and depth of cut) and two laser (laser power and distance between the laser spot and the cutting tool) on the cutting forces is investigated.
