The concept of green chemistry have emerged as major solutions for the development of chemical processes, which reduce reaction time, improve reaction selectivity and yield and simplifies separation and purification of products comparing to regular procedures. It also reduces the emission of volatile organic solvents and the use of hazardous toxic substances. Thus, replacement of conventional with alternative green solvents is important step in chemical synthesis of different compounds, including heterocycles as very important building blocks. In present research work, green methodology for synthesis of 5-nitroisatin-3-hydrazone and 5-nitroisatin-3-phenylhydrazone was used, by replacing conventional solvents (methanol and ethanol) with crude glycerol, which is obtained as a by-product in the transesterification of triglyc¬erides from eatable oil. The obtained isatin derivatives were identified by elemental microanalysis, as well as by FTIR, UV/VIS, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopic methods. The use of crude glycerol has significant ad¬vantages over the conventional solvents, since the reac¬tion time is reduced for 25 min and yield of the reactions is increased by 15 %.
