Malignant disorder of the heart rhythm and the importance of ICD placement.
Abstract
Ventricular tachycardia (VT) is a malignant heart rhythm disorder,
And it is divided into monomorphic, where all QRS complexes are same, and polymorphic, where all QRS complexes are different. In VT, the heart still has mechanical function. VT is a rhythm disorder that can have a frequency of up to 300 beats per minute, shortening the diastolic filling of the heart, which can cause a drop in blood pressure, loss of pulse, and loss of consciousness. In a case study, we presented a patient with ECG-verified VT and a ventricular frequency of 170 beats/minute. After unsuccessful pharmacological conversion, we performed electroconversion, after which there was a cessation of breathing and conversion to atrial fibrillation with a ventricular frequency of around 70 beats per minute. We performed CPR, after which the patient started breathing on her own.
Key words: ventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, ICD.
