There is a constant increase in the number of traffic accidents where the agricultural mechanization is involved, that is, tractors, in the first place. In addition, it should be emphasized that part of the traffic accidents occur in the public roads, where the agricultural mechanization is considered to be the almost exclusive cause, or, regarding the off-road conditions, where the most often accidents are the ones related to overturning, impacts of the vehicle with a motionless obstacle or various injuries caused by connecting tools. The statistical data obtained on the basis of the second part of traffic accidents are not completely reliable, and the reason for this is quite simple, and it is connected with the fact that the foregoing accidents occur off the public roads, which makes them less available for the public.
One of the potentially dangerous modes of the agricultural mechanization usage is, by all means, the motion of the tractor with a drawbar trailer carrying a load in the terrains with an inclination (ascent or descent), of the reduced coefficient of adhesion (soggy terrain covered in earth or grass, the ground covered in snow, ice or pebbles). Dangers of motions performed in these conditions are even greater if we take into consideration the fact that in practice connecting vehicles, (such as single or tandem axle trailers) with faulty or nonexistent braking system, are used, which leads to the tragic outcome in numerous cases.
Precisely these modes of motion have been examined in the paper itself, with the purpose of establishing functional relations between the influential parameters and defining their boundary valves for safe motion. The results obtained by using the simulation motion models of tractors and trailers – should be used in order to: emphasize the significance of a possession and correctness of having its own braking system when it comes to the trailer, define peak load values in the case of a transport with the trailer without its own braking system and the manner of a driver’s optimal behaviour in the case of an appearance of critical modes of operation (synchronized action upon the brake controls, gas engine, steering wheel and differential lock).
