In modern medicine, all the expressed need of establishing the function of human organs which have been damaged degenerative changes, diseases and injuries. In order to establish the proper functioning of the body is often necessary mounting of implants in the human body.
Using computers for creating better conditions for the development of new implants, their testing and production. Important part in the mounting as well as the design of implants have a medical generate images using tomographic methods. Thus generated images are stored in so-called DICOM file. In this paper are presented the programming solutions developed at the Department of Production Engineering Laboratory of machine tools, flexible manufacturing system design and automatization of procedures for processing digital medical images. Some examples of testing in different tissues are showed. The main purpose of software solutions for the automatic detection of the edges of the femur from DICOM files as a basis for designing body prosthesis to measure.
