COMPLEMENTARY - ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES TO PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF URINARY TRACT INFECTION

Abstract: The water is an essential matter for all living beings on Earth. Up to 60 % of the human body is water, the brain is composed of 60% of water, while the lungs are composed of 90% of water. Water has a significant and multiple role in a human organism: represents a solvent and medium in biochemical processes, it is a bearer of nutrients and waste matter, it is a participant in thermoregulation process and a lubricant. Every person should consume several liters of water daily through drinks and food. In the case of insufficient water intake, the human organism goes through a weakness that can manifest in various ways, and prolonged dehydration may lead to various chronic diseases. The most important organs, involved in distribution and balance of water in a human body, are kidneys. Functioning of kidneys may be compromised by various factors, one of them is urinary tract infection mostly caused by bacteria such is E.coli. The population of all ages can be affected, with a higher incidence in women, mostly during pregnancy. The treatment of urinary tract infection is based on antibiotics, but recidives are present, and the consequence is prophylactic use of antibiotics. Long-term use of antibiotics destroys „good“ bacteria in a human organism which necessarily leads to imbalance that affects optimal health. Based on all above mentioned, it is necessary to prevent and to give synergistic support to conventional treatment. Complementary – alternative approach implies: use of tea, micro and macro supplements and hygienic-dietary measures. Practically, this implies consumption of tea up to 2 liters per day, recommended doses of vitamin C, zink, methionine and probiotics with reduced sugar intake, consumption of cranberry juice and proper intimate hygiene. This recommended tea blend should have beneficial effect in urinary tract infections (no contraindication to pregnancy): 15% of horsetail (Equiseti herba) as a support to urinary tract, 25% of oregano (Origani herba) as antimicrobial agent, 10% of dandelion (Taraxaci folium) as a diuretic, 20% of chamomile (Chamomillae flos) as antiinflammatory agent, spasmolytic, 5% of nettle (Urticae folium) as adaptogenic plant and 25% of cranberry (Vacciunii macrocarponi fructus) as antiadhesive agent.
