Engine torque (output torque of the flywheel) is an engine output value, variable during working cycle. Variability of output torque is affected by: character of excitation torque variation due to gas pressure forces in the engine cylinder, character of excitation torque variation due to the motion of the slider crank mechanism, character of friction torque variation and variation of the torque required to drive the other auxiliaries (timing mechanism, high pressure pump, etc.). The aim of this paper is determination of the dependence between nonuniformity in crankshaft angular speed and excitation torque due to gas pressure forces on the one hand and torque which is over the flywheel delivered to the consumer together with torque losses in the engine on the other, as a function of the crank angle. The information of output torque variation of an IC engine can be used for diagnostic purposes.
