CONJUNCTIVAL AUTOGRAFTING WITH FIBRIN GLUE FOLLOWING PTERYGIUM EXCISION – OUR FIRST EXPERIENCE

1. Darko Ler, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina , Bosnia and Herzegovina

Objective: To present and share our first experience and toughts on techniques and learning curve of sutureless autografting with fibrin glue following pterygium excision. Methods: After corneal ablation and pterygium excision, free conjunctival graft is dissected from the superior bulbar conjunctiva. The graft is transferred to the recipient bare-sclera bed and secured with a fibrin tissue adhesive. Conclusion: The use of fibrin glue in pterygium surgery with conjunctival autografting reduces the surgical time, postoperative pain, conjunctival hyperemia and ocular discomfort with faster patient recovery compared to fixation with sutures. It is a safe and easy to learn technique and should be considered as an alternative method for the attachment of conjunctival autograft in pterygium surgery.
