There are several natural resources in the municipality of Kozarska Dubica. In addition to land in the municipality, there are great forest areas, a wide diversity of flora and fauna and significant water capacity. However, although the water capacity is abundant, the current needs and development plans of the city as well as the tendency to join the new city zones and the suburb areas to the city indicate that the existing capacity of water will not be sufficient for the purposes of water supply and free access to drinking water to all of the residents. The public company Waterwork manages the water supply system in the area of Kozarska Dubica. The company is merely a water distributor and it is not a technical and technological whole, which further complicates its business activities. Waterwork manages the water supply system in the city and the local water supply system in Knežica. The drinking water analysis is based on the regulations of Rulebook on drinking water sanitary safety (The Official Gazette of the Republic of Srpska No. 40 / 03).
The aim of this paper is to analyze the efficiency and functioning of water supply system in Kozarska Dubica as well as to point out the existing problems and the possibility to resolve them in the shortest period of time. Also, this paper draws attention to the drinking water quality level for the past six years and proposed measures as well as possible need to improve it.
The materials and methods used in the work include the analysis and interpretation of the data base of public company Waterwork in Kozarska Dubica and field research on the actual water supply sources.
The research results show that there will be lack of water in the future and that the exploitation of the water well in Komlenac is a long-term solution for providing water. From the available water quality data, it can be concluded that the use of the well in Međeđa might be jeopardized without increased water treatment.
