Rigid layer modes of multilayers are discussed. Symmetry is used to count Raman and infra-red active modes in completely general manner. The nearest monolayer interaction, advocated as a natural model in this context, allowed to analyze the frequencies and displacements, using analytically solved generic dynamical matrix.
