Determination of compressive strength of rocks is the simplest with the method of destruction on the classic press, but those tests are not always possible. Another way of testing is a non destructive, with the use of method of ultrasonic wave propagation. Combination of these two methods can be used to correlate the obtained data and obtain some real values of rock strength in a rock massif.
In the paper are shown the results of destructive testing on the classic press, while other methods, although more numerous, were not include since the tests on the classic press were the most present.
Testing was conducted on semi stone sedimentary rocks, from soft to solid, that are mostly present in civil engineering and that have a great number of reliable samples that can be used for testing.
