This paper examines the possibility of using wild oregano extract (Origanum vulgare) as an environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitor for two types of steel in 3% NaCl without and with the addition of an inhibitor. The inhibitor efficiency was analyzed by gravimetric methods and electrochemical tests (Tafel polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) at extract concentrations of 0.5; 1.0 and 1.5 g/L and exposure times of 2, 4, 6, 8, 24, 72 and 168 hours. The addition of the extract significantly reduces the corrosion rate, with an increase in the protection factor compared to the uninhibited solution. For Steel 1, the highest efficacy was achieved at 1.5 g/L of extract, while for Steel 2, favorable efficacy was achieved already at an extract concentration of 1.0 g/L. The obtained results indicate that wild oregano extract forms a protective adsorption layer on the surface of steel, which is why it can be used as a green corrosion inhibitor.
