STATISTICS METHODS IN THE ANALYSIS OF INJURIES AT WORK

Injuries at work refer to body, organic or functional harm that occurs at a work place or in connection with work. They ensue as a result of disproportion between workers and means of labour, on the one hand, and material conditions of working environment, on the other hand. Since the main goal of health and safety at work is to protect workers from accidents at work and other health damage, it is necessary to know the sources of danger, and the causes which lead to injuries so protection could prevent them.

According to the statistics, injuries at work rarely occur, wheereas injury patterns can be adequately defined for a particular working environment only on the basis of long observation, during which a quantitative survey of data reveals qualitative characteristics of a particular occurrence being treated. Accurate and comprehensive data are very important because incomplete and insufficiently accurate statistical information, even with high-quality processing, is not an authoritative basis for preventive activities.

In order to view an occurrence objectively in a given period and to determine its general tendencies, the use of statistical analysis of the dynamic trend has been proposed.
