DIFFERENT STATISTICAL APPROACHES USED IN PROCESSING INTERLABORATORY COMPARISONS DATA – z SCORES, z’ SCORES AND DEGREES OF EQUVALENCE

1. Aida Jotanović, Institute of metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina , Bosnia and Herzegovina

Interlaboratory comparisons are a useful and necessary tool to test the technical competence of the participating laboratories. The Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chemistry Laboratory acts as a state reference laboratory in the field of precious metal articles quality control. In order to provide dissemination of reference values the laboratory annually organises comparison of results on precious metals alloy. The comparisons follow the standard ISO/IEC 17043:2010, while “z scores” and “z’ scores” are used as indicators ensuring objective review of laboratories’ performance.
Comparison organised in 2015 was linked to European Association of National Metrology Institutes (EURAMET) project No. 1370 that was organised within Technical Committee for Metrology in Chemistry (TCMC) and has to follow technical regulations described in the document CIPM MRA-D05: “Measurement comparison in the CIPM MRA”. The “Degrees of equivalence” was used as indicator for evaluation of laboratories’ performance for specific measurement on determination of gold in gold jewellery alloy in accordance with the mentioned documents.
The present paper discusses these three statistical methods of assessing interlaboratory comparison results obtained in such conditions.
