In this paper, the results of testing the quality of distilled water used for the reconstitution of antibiotic syrups intended for oral use, most often in the pediatric population, are presented. By reviewing the legislation, there is no clearly defined time period and method of storing this type of water. The conducted analyzes confirmed that some pharmacies on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina use technical distilled water (water for accumulators, iron and antifreeze dilution), and also distilled water that does not meet quality requirements prescribed by Pharmacopeia. The tested water samples did not have adequately labeled packaging (production time and shelf life). Of all the tested samples, 20% had conductivity greater than permissible, 30% had an exceeded limit for heavy metals, and 20% of the samples showed the presence of oxidizing substances. Based on the results of these analyzes, it can be assumed that in many pharmacies, inadequate distilled water is used which could endanger the stability of the pharmaceutical preparation and the safety of the patient. Bearing in mind that antibiotic syrups are prescribed from the age of the infant and frequency of their use, the question arises whether pharmacists in pharmacies are sufficiently aware of the importance of the quality and proper use of this kind of water?
