Dentinal hypersensitivity is an important sociomedical problem, as it occurs in many patients. It is almost an everyday problem for clinicians encountered in practice. Dentin hypersensitivity is usually defined as excessive sensitivity of the exposed dentin to different stimuli. The pain occurs in the area of exposed dentin as a typical response to chemical, thermal, osmotic and tactile stimuli. That kind of pain occurs rapidly, is severe by nature and of short duration. Sometimes this kind of pain can last as dull sensations and for a long time. Besides causing discomfort to the patient, dentin hypersensitivity is a problem for a dentist who is difficult to diagnose and treat considering that it is an extremely complex physiological mechanism. In the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity are used various preparations that are intended to desensitise dentine through closing the dentinal tubules or reducing the excitability of nerves. Professionally most widely used drugs are fluoride. A particular problem is the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity localized on the proximal tooth surfaces with considering that the interdental spaces are easily accessible for local application preparation. Recently is introduced a new product Tepe Interdental Gel® which gel form in combination with the interdental brush facilitates application of the preparation in the areas of risk and distribution of fluoride in areas with increased risk. The aim of the study was to investigate in clinical conditions the effects of Tepe Interdental Gel® on the interdental localized dentin hypersensitivity by measuring the subjective pain parameters (sensitivity) evaluated on the basis of a visual analog scale (VAS-visual analogue scale).
