The pollution of the environment with heavy metals is a result of increased use of metals and chemicals for the industrial processes and uncontrolled discharges of toxic substances in the immediate environment, especially water sources. The removal of heavy metals from various effluents is a constant subject of interest of many researchers in the world. Biosorption is estimated as safe, effective and economical method for the elimination of heavy metals from contaminated waters. The aim of this research was to examine the sorption properties of untreated flax fibres and flax fibres treated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) towards Cr ion from aqueous solution. Initial concentrations of Cr in the solution were 10 mg/L and 20 mg/L. The results showed that treating flax fibres with H2O2 significantly increases the sorption capacity of fibres towards Cr ion when initial concentrations of Cr ion in the solution is 20 mg/L.
