Environmental (ECO) labelling has been an important issue in the actual global framework for more than 25 years.
In this work a review of European Union (EU) and regional environmental labelling programs and standards, as well as a review of the development of the environmental labelling are discussed.
Standard ISO has identified three broad types of ECO labels: Type I, Type II and Type III. In the frame of this study the special emphasis to the Type I ECO labels will be given.
