Dr Tim Vorley

Sheffield University, UK

I am an economic geographer by training, and the focus of mywork has always been in the area of entrepreneurship, innovation and regional development. My interests are particularly concerned with the organisational dynamics of entrepreneurialism, and how this relates to the wider institutional environment and public policy. Prior to joining the Management School in September 2010, I was a University Lecturer in Economic Geography at the University of Cambridge (2007-2010) and worked as a Research Fellow at the Said Business School, University of Oxford (2006-2007). I have also been a visiting researcher at the Department of Business Innovation and Skills during the Comprehensive Spending Review which has inspired my interest in evidence informed policy relevant research. In addition to my role in SUMS I am current a Deputy Director of the Research Exchange of the Social Sciences which involves working to support impact, engagement and knowledge exchange across the Faculty. I am part of tthe Civic University project (led by Prof Toulmin) with responsibility for the enterprise and economic development workstream in the Sheffield City Region. I am also a member of part of the Centre for Regional Economic and Enterprise Development (CREED).

Research

My primary research interests are in entrepreneurship, enterprise and regional economies. Other interests are: Intrapreneurship, Multinational Enterprises, Industry Clusters, EU Regional Policy and Governance, Regional Innovation Systems, Industrial Competitiveness, Knowledge Economy; Public Policy Technology Transfer and SMEs. I am always keen to hear from potential PhD candidates in any of these areas.
