SECURITY OF CHILDREN IN TRAFFIC

From an early age children are participants in traffic and often companion in the car and it is one of the leading causes of child deaths in the period up to 14 years. ZOOBS prescribes an obligation to use child safety seats so a child as a participant in traffic is safer.
Children, especially those younger than 12 and shorter than 150 cm, are very vulnerable in the front seat. Therefore, many countries have banned this category of passengers i.e. vulnerable categories of road users are sitting in the front seats.
The safety belts cannot successfully hold the children in a collision and can hurt them. Therefore some countries (USA, Canada, Australia, Sweden, etc.) require special child restraint systems (cradles, special child restraints, pads, etc.), depending on the age of the child. In some countries (USA), when carrying out a child from a maternity home, it is necessary to prove the possession of a tested cradles for baby transport. The use of these systems is different, and in some countries it is very high.
The aim of these systems is to protect the children more effectively and to save children, without any further injury, when a traffic accident occurs.
This paper presents the significance and the obligation to use child safety seats as well as the legal frameworks that require their use.
