Mercury, cadmium and lead are considered as major polluters of the environment from the group of metals that can have harmful effects on human health. Mercury (Hg) can be found as elemental and in inorganic and organic form. It is often used as an antiseptic agent, a preservative, in pesticides, pigments, etc. The use of mercury in cosmetics products ought be strictly prohibited. The aim of the present study is to investigate the presence of mercury in cosmetic products on the market of the Republic of Srpska. Mercury could cause a serious allergic reactions, as well as its systemic absorption and accumulation in the organism. This could attribute to the toxicity of the central nervous system or renal failure. For analysis of the mercury content in cosmetic products, mercury analyser DMA80 was used.
